Raku fired face brooch

£18.00

This little face brooch has been raku fired giving it a shiny metalic surface with colour variation in the glaze.

Raku firing is a process of using a gas kiln to bring the temperature up quickly to 1000 degrees, and then removing the work whilst hot and placing them in bins of combustible materials, before creating a reduction environment by putting the lids on top to remove the oxygen in the air. This last part of the process means that the glaze can react to the combustibles, creating different colours depending on where the heat has caught the glaze. The result is that no two pieces are the same & you never quite know what you’re going to get!

This brooch is made from ashraf hanna clay and has a hole in the top of its head so you can wear a flower in it if you would like to!
